That's me, thinner, in 2008, after a virus put me in hospital for five weeks. One way of losing weight.

I got involved with the Web in 1995. I started putting websites together in around 2000. In around 2003 I took up digital photography. Even now, I have no idea what I am doing - but I know a lot of feeling and concentration goes into it. I don't consider myself a photographer - no more than anyone else is. I try hard to write. That's been my main effort, my main hope, for the last 20 years. The need to write has grown stronger. I have grown stronger. Though still far away perhaps. In a sense I hope so.

This site is for my photos. It is meant to entertain. The launch date was 01/01/2010 at exactly 00:00:01. People all around the country celebrated. It was one of the biggest events of the year.

The photos are nearly all taken in the Twickenham and Richmond area of West London. A lot of the river, parks, birds, flowers, insects - and a few of local landmarks and buildings.

Feel free to download any photos for personal, non-commercial use. For anything else - contact me.

Camera stuff

Just after Christmas 2009 I got hold of a 18 megapixel Canon 7D SLR. I also have a 8 megapixel Canon 20D SLR. I have a bunch of lenses. A 18x135mm, a 75x300mm, a 17x55mm and a 60mm macro.

My compact is a 5 megapixel Pentax Optio 550. Great in its day, but I'm likely to be aquiring a 12 megapixel Panasonic Lumix GF1 soon. I'm just watching the price tumble.

Just about everything is optimised in Photoshop. Photos are often rotated, cropped and resized. Shading, contrast, tone, colours and brightness are frequently changed. I sometimes sharpen the images apply filters and special effects. I do all of this shamelessly and because I can.

Finally

I'll say again - I'm not a professional photographer. I can't 'talk' photography. I've never had any lessons, never read a book about it. To me; it's a kind of play. I'm learning about it all the time. Sometimes people say they like the stuff - and to them I am very grateful. That's why I bother with things like this. I hope you get something out of it.
